We believe that
membership in the Iowa Chiropractic Society is a bargain at any
price. To demonstrate this belief, let us identify some of our
recent activities on behalf of our members:
D.C. Take Five: In an effort to provide our members with fresh, up
to the minute information about events and news of the chiropractic
community, we are now faxing/e-mailing D.C. Take Five to all members
every Friday. This weekly publication provides you with the kind of
information you have told us you want to know about in a format that
is quick and easy to read and assimilate. We invite your questions
and topics.
Fax Back Questionnaires: Nearly all issues of D.C. Take Five will
have a fax back questionnaire. Usually devoted to a single issue,
the questionnaire gives you a chance to let us know what you are
thinking and the things you want us to be doing on your behalf. This
is a member directed association.
Legislation: The ICS has two contract lobbyists working with the
Iowa Legislature to protect the interests of Iowa's chiropractors.
Their activities are directed by the ICS Legislative Committee. Our
lobbyists are on the "Hill" full time, advocating on behalf of you
and your patients. Last year we were able to restore funding to
chiropractic under the Medicaid program and to defeat efforts by
others to limit your scope of practice. This year they will be
working for passage of a spinal manipulation safety act and to
achieve outpatient diagnostic testing at Iowa hospitals.
ICS Website: The time has finally arrived when you can access the
latest information about your ICS and chiropractic by visiting the
ICS/Advantage Website at www.iowadcs.org. The site includes a
section for patients, members and future members
ICS Fall Seminar and Okoboji Seminar: The ICS Continuing
Education Committee plan the Fall Seminar each year to provide
in-depth content on a specific topic. The Okoboji Seminar will be
presented each year in July at Lake Okoboji.) The seminars have been traditionally offered as an
opportunity for quality continuing education presented in a relaxing
family-oriented setting. The ICS Fall Seminar will be held October
22 - 23, 2005 with more information to
follow.
Other Continuing Education Programs: ICS partners with Palmer
Institute for Professional Advancement to provide two programs, and
five programs will be partnered with Iowa State University over the
Iowa Communications Network (ICN). By utilizing the ICN, we are able
to provide the educational opportunity in a variety of locations
across the state so that no doctor is more than a half hour drive
away from a site. Basic cost to attend the program(s) is $59 per
person and less if signing up for multiple programs. For more
information on these programs please contact Tonya Fowler, Director
of Member Services with ICS 800/475-6178.
Annual Convention: The Annual Convention combines top-notch
educational programming with social activities, educational
exhibits, and fellowship to produce a product which is nearly unique
to associations such as the ICS.
Mark your calendars for the 2005 ICS Annual Convention, April 15-17
at the Holiday Inn University Park in West Des Moines.
ICS HIPAA Compliance Program: In order to assist our members in
coming into compliance with HIPAA regulations, ICS has partnered
with the Health Care Training Institute to provide computer-based
materials and other services. Five different options are available
to you ranging from a CD containing a full compliance manual an
on-site gap analysis performed in your office. Contact the ICS
office for details.
Doctor to Doctor Program: This new program is designed to assist our
members at critical phases of their career. There are four services
offered by the program. First is the New Practitioner Seminar and
Manual designed to assist those about to enter their first years of
practice. The Manual will also be of value to members at any stage
of their career. The second element is the ICS Mentor Service
designed to link a member with a need with a member with relevant
experience in a particular area and, for a period of time, for them
to work together to address a challenge the member is facing in
practice. The third element is the ICS Topic Advisor Service whereby
members volunteer to serve as advisors of specific topics. Members
with need for quick answers on a particular topic can contact the
advisors without charge. The fourth element is the ICS Equipment
Recycling Service through which members donate equipment and
materials no longer needed for those beginning their practice. The
program is directed by the Doctor to Doctor Committee of member
physicians.
ICS Board Report: In order to increase communication between the ICS
Board of Directors, the ICS Districts, and individual members, we
have introduced the ICS Board Report. Within five days of each
meeting of the Board of Directors, the ICS District Directors fax a
report of the actions of the Board to each member. Written in "news"
style and not as minutes, the report quickly communication the
activities of your Board of Directors.
ICS Membership Directory: This year ICS reinstituted the publication
of the ICS Membership Directory. This publication places in your
hands the information your need regarding 1) the ICS and 2) your
colleagues across the state.
Discounted Long Term Care Insurance: Your ICS has arranged for you
to obtain coverage for you, your family, your employees, and their
families at up to a 49 percent discount from usual costs. Contact ICS for
more information. |
