Iowa Board of Chiropractic Statement on COVID-19 and Advertising

Doctors of chiropractic are primary healthcare providers who provide care and relief to cases that might otherwise end up in emergency rooms. As such, chiropractic clinics share the public health responsibility of slowing the transmission of COVID-19. Clinics are encouraged to practice strict hygienic practices, ensure their lobbies are not congested, ensure their patients and employees are protected. The Board recommends every doctor of chiropractic remain up to date on with preventative measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and closely monitor the recommendations of the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and local health authorities. We want to urge a safe and responsible response to COVID-19, while remaining ready to serve our communities and patients.
The Iowa Board of Chiropractic is committed to addressing misinformation that may cause confusion during these trying times. While spinal adjustments are effective for a number of conditions, due to lack of research, doctors should refrain from advertising/making claims that spinal adjustments can improve immunity to COVID-19.

The Board is working diligently to ensure all doctors of chiropractic are provided guidance through this pandemic regarding both their license and their practice. We encourage our doctors to share ideas and experiences on how to better provide their vital services to patients. We also want to thank and recognize our doctors along with all healthcare providers during this health crisis. The personal and professional impact this virus has had is large, but our response and resolve has been larger.

Please continue to visit Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Board of Chiropractic for continuing updates.

Sincerely,

Iowa Board of Chiropractic
